Removing the Cash Box

The cash box is where all cash entered through the Cash Acceptor is stored within the kiosk. When the cash box is full or near full, it will need to be removed from the kiosk to retrieve the cash inside. In addition to the lock on the outside of the kiosk, the cash box is contained within a cash lockbox, utilizing either a traditional lock or a Kaba Mas locking mechanism, for an added layer of security. Follow the steps below to ensure proper removal and replacement of the cash box.

Items you will need to bring with you:
  1. Round kiosk exterior lock key(s)
  2. Square kiosk cash lockbox key or know the Kaba Mas one-time combination
  3. Empty replacement cash box

Step 1: Open the Kiosk 

Using your round kiosk exterior lock key(s), unlock and open the front of the kiosk to access the cash lockbox.

Take this time to inspect the kiosk for things like printer paper level and ensuring no foreign object has been placed on/near the credit card reader or check scanner. 

Step 2: Initiating Cash Pull

From the Cash Acceptor screen, press the “Remove Cash Box” button.


The screen will then display the following message:

Step 3: Open the Cash Lockbox

If the kiosk is equipped with a traditional lock and key for its cash lockbox, use the square cash lockbox key to open the front door of the cash lockbox. 

If the kiosk uses a Kaba Mas lock, follow the steps below to use the lock once you know the one-time combination:
  1. Power up the lock by repetitively turning the dial counterclockwise until “EC” is displayed on the screen next to the keypad.
  2. Using the keypad, enter the one-time combination.
  3. Turn the dial clockwise to open the lock.
  4. Open the front door of the cash lockbox.

Step 4: Swap Out the Cash Box

Grasp the yellow handle of the cash box and firmly pull straight out, removing the cash box all the way. 

Select the button that says, “Cashbox has been removed.”


3.A Removal ID will be assigned to this action and appear on the screen. Removal IDs are viewable in the Cash Collection Logs in the BillPay Kiosk Admin Portal for reporting purposes.


Insert the empty cash box with the yellow arrow pointing up. Once the cashbox is placed within the kiosk, select “Cashbox has been inserted.”


A receipt identifying cash totals in the cash box will print from the kiosk. Keep this receipt with the cash box. The screen will then return to the main menu of the BillPay Kiosk Manager.

Close and lock the cash lockbox.
